Joining

Use the invitation link sent to your registration email, or go to sigcsevirtual2026.slack.com. Once in, please set your profile: full name, pronouns (optional and welcome), institution, and country or time zone. A complete profile is the single most useful thing you can do — it helps colleagues you’ve never met know who they’re talking to.

We Are a Global Community

SIGCSE Virtual draws educators from countries across every time zone. Please keep that in the front of your mind:

  • Write plainly. Avoid idioms, sports metaphors, regional slang, and humor that depends on local context. Many colleagues are working in their second, third, or fourth language — and they are reading you generously.
  • Spell out acronyms on first use, including national ones (CS1, AP CSP, GCSE, Abitur, and ATAR do not travel equally well).
  • Give dates and times with time zones, and prefer the unambiguous format: 2026-03-05, 14:00 UTC. “3/5” means March 5 in some countries and May 3 in others.
  • Expect asynchronous replies. Someone’s silence is a time zone, not a slight. Nobody is obligated to answer at 3 a.m. local time.
  • Assume good faith when tone seems abrupt. Directness is culturally variable; so is politeness.
